The Herbie Project
Until January 19, 2010, Herbie was the largest elm tree in New England.  For over 50 years, Frank Knight, Yarmouth, ME  tree warden, kept Herbie alive. Ultimately, it was a loosing battle with Dutch elm disease.  Herbie's life spanned 4 centuries, from 1793 to 2010.  To honor this magnificent tree, the wood is being made into bowls, turnings, furniture and sculpture, and a variety of other objects, which will be sold to support the ongoing work of the Yarmouth Tree Trust. http://www.yarmouthcommunityservices.org/Herbie
